The strange castle that appear on our logo is a part of the fortification of the abbey of St. Nile in Grottaferrata.
And more specifically, a tower, detached from the main body of the abbey flying out into the air.
The effect is spectacular, as indeed the whole fort.
This powerful work has been strongly supported by Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere (Pope Julius II – 1443/1513).
And it was a wise decision given that throughout the XVI century the Alban and Tuscolan hills were the battleground between militias of the Colonna family and those of the papacy.
Work on the fortification of the abbey lasted almost 10 years.
You can visit free every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in Summer and at 4:00 p.m. in Winter.
– Hello! old volcano, how are you?
– old to whom? Be careful becouse the volcanos have got seven lives like cats.
– what do you mean? Are you not extinct?
– Maybe you’re extinct! I’m only dormient.
– I hope you didn’t fix the alarm clock too much early….
– Do not worry I want to keep sleeping still for a long time. I worked very hard to model this area, and in all modesty, I made a very good work.
– I agree, you created very magnificent landscapes.
– Thank you, I know.
– Good night Volcano
– Yawn! Good night.
Back to Marine every therd weekend of October for the festival of the “Ciambella al mosto”. This Marinese typical specialty is a very fluffy doughnut prepared since 1600 for the tables of local nobles. The tradition seemed to have been lost over time, but inside the houses mariners housewives continued to jealously guard the recipe and prepare it for their families. So, a few years ago thanks to the “Consortium for the Protection Specialties Typical” has rekindled interest in this very special cake that is now regularly celebrated with a festival every year. The doughnut to the must, as its name implies, is prepared with the juice, or wine still in fermentation. This means you can enjoy this speciality only during the brief time of year when the wine is fermenting, because, when the wine is ready, no more cake.

The most popular festival of the Castelli Romani is undoubtedly the “Wine Festival of Marino.
It takes place the first weekend of October. The main phases of the celebration are the solemn procession, the parade, the miracle of the fountains that “give wine”, the distribution of grapes and wine in the streets of the village, the sight of the flag. The procession recalls the historic event took place in Rome on 4 December 1571, when Pope Pius V wanted to be bestowed to Marcantonio Colonna, Lord of Marino, who had given command of the papal fleet in the Battle of Lepanto against the Turks, same great honor reserved in ancient Rome to the bravest generals. Marcantonio Colonna was in fact distinguished courage and ability to contribute decisively to the victory of the Holy League against the forces of the Ottoman Empire. By the same historical event gave rise to the religious festival of thanksgiving to the Virgin of Victory – then the SS.Rosario – under whose protection the Pope had placed naval expedition. The procession and the festival are therefore both “historical” as originating from the same event.
In the daily life of a driver most unpredictable things happen. For how much experience you have gained in your work, there will always be something new and never dealt with which we are not prepared. This happened two nights ago when, going out for the last service of the day at 10 p.m., just after driving 500 meters from home, in the dark and deserted street I heard a disturbing sound like “the exorcist”. Immediately I looked at the radio thinking of some strange program but the radio was off. Then I stopped to listen better and I realized that it was a cat in serious trouble. Because cats have a habit of slip into the engine I became warried and went down to control …. Instead I see the cat of my neighbor on the roof of my car, very very scared. I had involuntarily “kidnapped”. Luckily it was easy enough to catch it and return home. Budget: a little ‘fear for the cat, a scratch for me and 10 minutes late. It ‘went well.

A great gesture of peace and mutual recognition between the two cities.
BREAD AND ARTISTS
Next weekend Albano and Genzano will give you a warm welcom with two events:
IN ALBANO, THE FESTIVAL OF STREET ARTISTS NAMED "BAIOCCO"
The name of the Festival in Albano "Baiocco or Bajocco" came from an ancient italian currency denomination largely used in Central Italy, especially in Latium. The origin of the name is uncertain. Its value was originally equivalent to a shilling; disappeared after the unification of Italy (Wikipedia).
IN GENZANO, THE FESTIVAL OF THE BREAD
The traditional Festival of the homade bread of Genzano take place every year in September. The purpose of the Festival it's to promote a product more representative of its rich heritage of manufacturing and quality not only locally but also nationally.
The town of Genzano di Roma is in fact part of the National City Bread, and homade bread of Genzano was the first in Italy to be awarded the I.G.P. (Protected Geographical Indication) by the European Union.
During the Festival, visitors can enjoy the local products and guided tours of the Sforza-Cesarini Park, the Village, the ovens and the historical museum of "Infiorata".
At 5 p.m. on Sunday is planned the realization of "The longest Bruschetta in the world".
PANE E ARTISTI
